HIGH PERFORMANCE. PRECISE RESULTS
Hu-Friedy Perma Sharp™ Sutures are designed specifically for dental, ensuring efficient and reliable soft tissue closure and they are manufactured from a stronger alloy composition, which increases ductile strength. This means that if the needle does bend, it is less likely to break when reshaping. Moreover, the 300 Series Stainless Steel, the ideal alloy for dental suture needles, ensures a strong sharp needle pass after pass.
Other very important points of performance are related both to a finer point geometry for smooth tissue penetration, requiring up to 20% less force than other suture needles, and to the laser-drilled needles which reduce tissue disruption.

ABSORBABLE MATERIALS
PGA (DYED AND UNDYED)
This braided homopolymer of glycolic acid has good tensile strength and handling properties. Strength retention 17-21 days. PGA loses strength in 14-17 days and is absorbed in 90-120 days.
PGA FA (FAST ABSORPTION)
Developed for short-term closures, PGA FA is ideal for skin and mucosa closing that may benefit from fast suture absorption. PGA FA retains approximately 48% of its original tensile strength one-week post implantation and 0% by approximately 14-17 days. Absorption of PGA FA is essentially complete between 49-63 days. It is processed to absorb quickly with little tissue reaction.
NON-ABSORBABLE MATERIALS
SILK
Being the ”classic” non-absorbable suture, braided silk has superior handling properties and visibility.
POLYESTER
Polyester sutures are made from polyethylene trephthalate polymers. Excellent tensile strength and less tissue reaction than braided silk.
POLYPROPYLENE
Monofilament material made from polypropylene polymers has excellent tissue compatibility. A good alternative to silk.
NEW
PTFE
PTFE Sutures are non-absorbable, synthetic and monofilament sutures which handle smoothly like a multifilament. They are white in color, so nice if used in aesthetic zones. Comfortable for the patient, they promotes wound healing because unlike multifilament sutures, they do not absorb blood, saliva, bacteria or food residues.

DOUBLE INTERVIEW
Drs. Gaetano Paolone and Salvatore Scolavino

Giana Spasic, Manager Key Opinion Leaders Strategy Europe, has met and interviewed doctors Paolone and Scolavino, founders of WeRestore.it project and of the new 3SSENTIAL Kit recently launched in collaboration with Hu-Friedy.
The purpose of the interview was to know something more about them and to find out what hobbies or past events have led them to the life they are living today. This is the result of the double interview.

First of all, I’d like to thank you for being here today. I’d like to break the ice with a hypothetical question. If you hadn’t become dentists, what would you have liked to do?
Salvatore: Well, it’s a simple question to answer to: interior design. My father was a professor of art history and maybe this is why I have always been into arts, in fact, years ago I dedicated myself to the nativity scene craft. Perhaps the passion for craftsmanship led me to choose the restoration among all dental branches.
Gaetano: I don’t know for sure, there are many other things that I would have liked to do. Engineering, computer science... at the moment I’m spending my free time in photography and playing the electric bass. But in general, I like precision works and manual skills, such as repairing and reassemble, and this is the reason why I love what I do.
Is there anything you have in common besides the passion for restorative dentistry?
Gaetano: In the first place we were united by our work and passion, but now we can say that also a good friendship rose. However, we are very different: I’m more rational and systematic, whereas he is more instinctive and creative.
Why did you choose WeRestore.it as the name of your project?
Gaetano: Not everybody immediately understand that WeRestore.it means "We restore it” but intend the .it as an acronym related to Italy. To be honest, this interpretation is also worthy: we are proud to be Italian and to bring our nationality and creativity all around the world.
Salvatore: We have chosen this name also to immediately identify the specialized branch of our activity: it is easy to remember and immediately gives the sense of a solid collaboration in the field of restorative dentistry.
If you happened to end up on a desert island and you could choose only one instrument or tool for treating a patient, which one would you choose?
Salvatore: Surely the Anterior of our 3SSENTIAL Kit, an instrument that we call Solid Brush. With the side of the brush I can unstick and lift, so it can be very useful in an emergency situation like that.
Gaetano: I agree.
What is the most "pleasant" tooth to treat and which one do you like the least?
Gaetano: In my opinion, the most pleasant and easy to treat is the 6th superior.
Salvatore: I agree with you. And the tooth that I like the least is the wisdom tooth.
What kind of music do you listen to in your dental practice?
Gaetano: Well, I play bass, so I can only put on Virgin Radio. Only and always Rock!
Salvatore: I play guitar and I usually tell my assistants to put on RTL or some Pink Floyd records.
Gaetano: I like Pink Floyd, too!
It seems you have more things in common than you think. Thanks to each other for ...?
Gaetano: Thank you for constantly trying to de-rationalize me.
Salvatore: Thanks for rationalizing me. You are the one who has taught me the aphorism "Live today and fight tomorrow".
Do you have any hobbies or passion other than restorative dentistry?
Salvatore: I like motorcycle riding and..play with the Play Station!
Gaetano: There's no shame ... I like science fiction films like Star Wars!
Salvatore: Really? I like those on the Marvel superheroes.
What superpower would you like to have?
Salvatore: Definitely the ability to fly. Or control the fundamental elements.
Gaetano: Teleport. Can you imagine the comfort to travel from a place to another in just one second?
How would you evaluate your collaboration with Hu-Friedy?
Gaetano: I think that people are crucial for the realization of such projects, and you, Giana, have been fundamental in this sense. You introduced us Hu-Friedy company not too long ago and we soon started a strict collaboration with the research and development department and the results can speak for themselves.
Salvatore: Agreed. I believe that this collaboration has benefited both sides. Our ideas and projects were strong and valid in first place and Hu-Friedy helped us to finalize and to realize the new 3SSENTIAL KIT by WeRestore.it.
Gaetano: I see that eventually I really rationalized you.
Salvatore: I can tell.
Thank you for your collaboration with us. The KOL project is constantly growing and alongside the research and development department of Hu-Friedy, the project has always been at the center of the innovation we want to offer to doctors. It is possible especially thank to the continuous confrontation and partnership with experts in the dentistry field like you.
