FROM RUSSIA TO ITALY…WITH A SMILE!

Directly from Ekaterinburg, Russia, Dr. Irina U. Klementyeva, Doctor of Stomatology, and Aleksandr Klementev, Chief of Technical Officer, came to Italy last October in order to visit some dental practices and get some ideas for refurnishing their one, an impressive historical building called Dental Studio Sculpture Charly. Drs. Bormida and Dr. Ghezzi were more than happy to welcome the guests in order to show them the concept placed behind the excellent organisation that makes their dental practices outstanding in terms of efficiency and safety.

Improving efficiency with IMS cycle

The first studio we visited was run by Drs. Giorgio and Giulia Bormida, who decided to follow the family heritage by restyling the studio founded by their father in 1974 in Milan and by being always updated with new technologies. Starting from the reception and from the clean and well-organized waiting room, with a small area dedicated to children and a TV that shows a video with the employees’ biographies, a patient would feel immediately less anxious and more comfortable.

“The Hu-Friedy’s Instrument Management System (IMS) allowed us to minimise the waste of time and space: if in the past we were using about 40 sterilisation pouches, we now have only a dozen ones and thanks to the sterilisation indicators, it’s much easier to keep track of the sterilisation process just by sticking the labels both on the cassettes and on a notebook”, said the doctors.

Continuing the visit, doctors Bormida kindly offer to show the entire sterilisation process: starting from the “dirty area”, a cassette could never be taken back to the previous step, as it’s a one-way process. After being through the ultrasonic bath, the thermo-disinfector and the autoclave, the cassette is ready to be stocked in the storage area, where everything is divided and organised in colours. The two doctors are impressed by such a minimal but perfectly organised workflow.

Technology & home feeling

On the second day, the visit continued with Dr. Carlo Ghezzi’s dental practice in Settimo Milanese (MI), that boasts seven doctors and two assistants. The most remarkable peculiarity of this studio is technology, in fact every clinic is equipped with three monitors: the first one shows the patients’ schedule, in the second one the patient is able to watch the entire dental procedure thanks to a microscope provided with a camera, and the last one shows the doctor while working. If a patient doesn’t want to watch the procedure, the assistant can put a video on YouTube or maybe a Cartoon for children, according to their wishes.

“IMS cassettes perfectly match with our concept of being constantly in line with the times,” said Dr. Ghezzi. “They helped us improve our organisation as having all the instruments ready for a certain procedure, allow us to be more efficient and to save time between one patient and another.”

Irina and Aleksandr are fascinated also by the attention given to the staff itself: there’s a dedicated area with the changing room, the restroom, the kitchen and a common space where meetings and lessons are frequently held by the doctors. The design is minimal but warm, with quotations painted on the walls that reflect Carlo’s personality.

Irina and Aleksandr seemed satisfied about their visit in Italy and certainly took some ideas for their already stunning dental practise, opened 7 days per week from early morning until late evening.

“When we created the first clinic in 1999 we chose the names «Sculpture» and «Charly» because we think our aim is to sculpt a smile in every patient and to satisfy every need: we believe our work is an art. Tooth Charly lives with us and helps to cure children who literally enjoy themselves when they come here: they need to feel comfortable and to trust us, so we do our best to let their therapeutic treatments be easier to face.”
